The finale of Marvel series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has come around all too quickly, with episode six launching on Disney Plus on Friday April 23.

While fans will undoubtedly be disappointed that Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie’s MCU adventure as Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson is drawing to a close, there has been speculation that they could return in a second season.

There have been so many layers to the story, from enlisting the help of Baron Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl) to facing the Flag-Smashers and the ‘new’ Captain America John Walker (Wyatt Russell).

So could The Falcon and The Winter Soldier return for season two?

Will there be a season 2 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier?

While a second season of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier hasn’t yet been confirmed, there have been hints that it could come in future.

It recently emerged that WandaVision is set to be submitted for nominations at the Emmy Awards as a limited series, implying that the Marvel show will not return for another season.

However, the same hasn’t gone for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which is going to be put forward in the Drama category.

Speaking to IndieWire, Nate Moore, an executive producer of the show and VP of production and development at Marvel Studios, explained why they chose to place it in that particular category.

“[The decision] came about sort of as the series was launching, but it was something we were thinking about even as we were making it – not because we think, “Oh my God, it’s so great,” but because it does feel a bit more dramatic than some of our typical stuff,’ he said.

‘As this is sort of our first foray into television, even if it’s Disney Plus, we thought [the category placement] was appropriate for what the show is trying to tackle.’

This also means that WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier won’t be competing against each other at this year’s Emmys.

While he did not confirm that it will be renewed for a second season, Nate added: ‘Hopefully at the end of this season, you will see the potential for what we could tell in a subsequent season.’

How many episodes are there on Disney Plus?

There are six episodes in season one of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Disney Plus.

This is three episodes fewer than there were for WandaVision, which had a nine-episode arc.

Following The Falcon and The Winter Soldier finale, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the show will be shared in the anthology series Marvel Studios: Assembled.

The Making of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode is set to be released on Disney Plus on Friday April 30.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is available to watch on Disney Plus.
