WTA Adds Two Brand New Events to Its Tennis Calendar

Women’s tennis has witnessed constant developments with the years gone by. A few years ago, the players’ winning prize money for both the men’s and women’s categories was made the same at the Grand Slam events. With time gone by, the number of events played on the women’s circuit has only gone up.

Recently, the addition of two new WTA 250 events was brought to public attention. The first of these newly added tennis events will be played in Parma, which is in the northern region of Italy and will be played on the red clay courts. Called the Emilia Romagna Open, it will be held from May 17 till 22.

The tournament in Parma will feature 32 players competing in the main draw for singles. There will be another six players added to the main draw after they cross the hurdle of the qualifying rounds. Meanwhile, the event in Hamburg will showcase the talents of 28 players in the singles main draw.

Reflecting on the addition of the two events, WTA Chairman Steve Simon stated, “The WTA is committed to offering as many playing and earning opportunities for our members as possible, and we look forward to bringing the WTA Tour to Parma and Hamburg this season, enhancing women’s tennis, even more this year.”
