Zurich Classic Cut Line: How Many Teams Make the 36-Hole Cut at TPC Louisiana?
The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is one of the most celebrated tournaments on the PGA Tour calendar. The event follows a team structure where 80 teams participate and switch between the four-ball and the four-some playing format in alternate rounds. The traditional cut also takes place after 36-holes at the Zurich Classic.
The format at Zurich Classic is simple. Players will play the four-ball in the first and third rounds and will switch to a four-some format in rounds two and four.
Four-Ball: Both players on a team will play their holes individually with their own balls. The team gets carded the lowest score made by a player from the team. For example, if Player A birdies a hole and his teammate Player B pars it, the birdie score will be taken as final for the team.
Four-some: Players take turns and make strokes in the four-some format. They play alternate tee-shots through 18 holes. The teammates decide on alternate tee-shots and the player who does not take the tee shots will have to play the second shot and so forth.
How the cut line is drawn at the Zurich Classic
The Zurich Classic of New Orleans follows a traditional 36-hole cut. So after two rounds, the top 33 teams make the cut according to PGATour.com. All the teams tied at the 33rd position will also advance to the weekend.
The tournament starts with 160 players in Round 1, but the count gets filtered after 36-holes. Only 70 rough players get a chance to compete for the prize at the weekend.
The sudden-death format is also an interesting one at the Zurich Classic. In case after a tie upon the completion of 72-holes, a sudden-death playoff begins at the first hole with a four-some (alternate shots) format.
It is a hole-by-hole playoff and the playing format is also switched alternatively. If the playoff moves into the second hole, the players will play the four-ball (best score) format and so on.
The winning team of the Zurich Classic will receive a payout of $2,138,600 that will be split evenly. The tournament’s total purse is $7.4 million.
