Denise Welch was left terrified when an alleged stalker appeared at her home armed with a knife.

The actress, 62, was in bed with her husband Lincoln Townley, 48, when an intruder got onto their property during the night, according to The Sun.

Loose Women panellist Denise said: ‘It was terrifying but we can’t talk about it for legal reasons.’

A source added: ‘Denise and Townley were left really shaken by what happened. They started getting unwanted attention which culminated in a man armed with a knife being outside their property.

‘They don’t know the guy and have no idea why he focused on them.’

The couple are said to be willing to go to any length to stop the same happening again.

A 53-year-old man has been charged with stalking, having a knife in a public place, arson and criminal damage, and is due to go to court later this year.

Former Celebrity Big Brother winner Denise lives with Lincoln in Tynemouth.

The couple got married in 2013. She shares two children – Matthew and Louis – with her ex Tim Healy.

Denise has previously been targeted by trolls with Lincoln locating one in 2016 and, four years earlier, a cyber stalker told her to kill herself.

More recently the star took a social media break after she came under fire for her opinions on the coronavirus pandemic and the government guidelines to prevent its spread.

Denise said on This Morning: ‘I have been shocked and appalled by the way the government and indeed, our media, have represented this virus to people.

‘Basically, for five months now, we’ve had a rolling death count every day. We’ve never had one for the 500 people who die of cancer every day, we’ve never had one for the 180 people who die of heart disease every day or the 20 plus at the moment, who are dying of suicide every day.’

She later said in an Instagram video: ‘I seem to spend most of my days at the moment being quite emotional. I have been accused of not caring and being a Covid denier when in fact I care so much about the devastation that Covid is causing, to the people who have lost their lives directly to Covid, and the people who are losing their lives because of Covid…

‘For those people, saying things like Covid denier, that is the worst thing you can say to somebody who has done nothing but tried to help to alleviate the fear.’

She added on Twitter: ‘I’m going to be stepping back from here as it’s taking its toll.’
