“Go To Hell”- Charlotte Flair Blasts Dave Meltzer for Commenting on her Appearance

The pressure of being a modern professional wrestler is excruciating. From enduring injuries that might endanger your life to the constant need to stay relevant, wrestlers have it against them from the beginning. However, female wrestlers like Charlotte Flair might have it a lot tougher.

In recent times, women’s wrestling has grown multifold and has blossomed into a must-see product. Irrespective of the company, women’s wrestling is no longer degrading, and neither does it pander to a male audience. However, certain people drag the outstanding work female wrestlers do through the mud.

On the Wrestling Newsletter Radio, Dave Meltzer commented on Charlotte Flair being ‘subconscious of her looks’. The head honcho of the WON has previously commented on Flair’s and other female wrestlers’ physical appearance too.

While many have blasted him for his misogynistic comments, Flair might’ve ended his career with her latest tweet. After a fan notified her of Meltzer’s comments, which included Flair’s appearance, she gave him a piece of her mind.

Dave Meltzer has always been a respected wrestling critic, but his assessment of female wrestlers’ appearances isn’t tolerable. His star-rating scale might be a fraud system, but his demeanour towards the growing women’s division is utterly disgusting.

Flair asked Dave to reflect on his comments and how he might’ve affected so many professional wrestlers before her. “You have my phone number. It would take you 30 seconds to ask as opposed to giving straight crap to your listeners,” wrote Flair.

Meltzer’s prior controversies

Given his status as wrestling’s top journalist, Dave Meltzer’s opinion is respected as much as Vince McMahon’s opinion. Her star-rating scale to determine match quality changed the wrestling game forever. The Young Bucks even have a finishing move named after him.

Despite the pedestal he’s placed on, Meltzer has received a ton of backlash for his journalistic integrity. His opinions are flawed and his statements are baseless. Some might even say Meltzer is the ‘least best’ thing to happen to professional wrestling since bra and panty matches.

He received a ton of heat for commenting on Peyton Royce’s appearance. Meltzer claimed, “I do think Peyton Royce’s transformation to look more attractive…. I don’t know,” and even claimed she used to be ‘ a lot lighter’. Peyton responded to him, asking Uncle Dave, “So what would you have me do, Dave… starve myself?” (H/T Heel by Nature)

Will his style of journalism fade away, or will it give rise to other people like Jim Cornette who have also made sexist comments against female wrestlers? While he might think he’s propagating the art of wrestling, he’s doing the stark opposite.
