Line of Duty star Martin Compston has taken to Twitter after enjoying a round of golf with ‘big fella’ and co-star Owen Teale – and he couldn’t resist the temptation to crack a caddy joke.

The Steve Arnott actor posted a picture of himself enjoying a socially distanced game with Owen Teale, who plays chief Inspector Philip Osborne on the hit BBC One show.

‘Amazing to get out on a course on day off with the big fella, no caddy’s of course with Covid…(sic)’ Martin wrote.

It’s a cheeky nod to Line of Duty fans out there – but could it mean more?

The caddy, of course, refers to the bent coppers in cahoots with the Organised Crime Unit (OCG).

We know there are four caddies in operation in the police force, and that three of them have been identified as Dot Cottan, Gill Biggeloe, and Derek Hilton.

Owen’s character Philip has come under suspicion from some viewers, with fans believing he could be the elusive H at the heart of corruption in the service.

Golf clubs have played a part in the series itself this series. Suspicious copper Ian Buckles (Nigel Boyle) has been suspected of being the caddy after viewers spotted a set of clubs in his office.

We’ll have to wait to find out if there’s any truth to the speculation until the end of the series at least.

AC-12 are doing all they can to get to the truth with the longest interrogation scene in the history of the show taking place on Sunday.

Meanwhile, millions of fans – including the stars of Gogglebox – struggled to keep things together as they watched Line of Duty’s Ryan Pilkington (Gregory Piper) and Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) turn their guns on each other.

Episode five saw Kate agree to meet Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) in a secluded car park, with two gunshots ringing out at the end of the episode.

Line of Duty continues on Sunday at 9pm on Sunday.
