Roger Federer’s Former Coach Picks Serena Williams as One of the Favorites at French Open 2021
Tennis queen Serena Williams will soon begin her practice for the upcoming clay-court season. She’ll start her training at the Mouratoglou Academy in Nice and will then head to tournaments in Rome and Paris. Williams has already won three French Open titles and will be aiming for her fourth one this season.
In a recent interview, tennis expert Paul Annacone mentioned that Serena Williams just needs to be healthy to succeed in the upcoming clay-court season. He believes that her schedule is fine and she’ll surely be one of the favorites at the French Open 2021.
“Think it’s fine (on her schedule). I mean, the biggest thing for Serena is that she just has to be healthy. I mean, if Serena Williams is healthy, she is the favorite or the top three or four favorites in anything she plays,” said Annacone in the interview.

Serena has been fabulous so far in the 2021 tennis season. She reached the semis of the Australian Open 2021 and will look forward to carrying her momentum at the Roland Garros as well. Clearly, Annacone hinted that if she remains fit, she can surely win her 24th Grand Slam title at the French Open this year.
“Has the power to hit through any surface”- Paul Annacone on Serena Williams
Paul Annacone even offered a piece of advice to Serena. He stated that Serena should stay healthy, get a few matches in Rome, and she’ll just be ready to play at the French Open. The tennis expert believes that a champion like Williams has the ability to play good tennis on any surface.
“She’s been there so many times, has the power to hit through any surface. She’s got three titles at Roland Garros. So, stay healthy, get a couple of matches in Rome, and she’ll be just fine,” added the former coach of Roger Federer.
Annacone clearly believes that even though Serena is 39, she still has a lot of tennis left in her. He just claimed that she needed to be absolutely fit and healthy in order to achieve any future glory.
Serena Williams last won the French Open title in 2015. It is the only title which she hasn’t won on more than five occasions which may perhaps push her harder this year, not that she needs any more motivation.
