RuPaul’s Drag Race UK stars Lawrence Chaney and Ellie Diamond received a surprise shout-out during the season 13 finale of Drag Race US.

In the final episode of the current series of Drag Race in the US, Symone was crowned the winner of the competition, winning a $100,000 (£72,000) cash prize and being named America’s next drag superstar.

Symone went up against Kandy Muse in the final lip sync, with each of the queens having defeated Gottmik and Rosé respectively in the previous round.

Before the lip sync showdowns commenced, RuPaul sat down with each of the finalists to talk about their Drag Race journeys.

While speaking to New York-based Rosé, who is Scottish, RuPaul said that she loves the performer’s ‘Scottish brogue’.

‘I can say only one thing with a Scottish accent. It’s: “Lawrence Chaney!” Can you teach me how to say something else with a Scottish brogue?’ the Drag Race head judge said, in reference to the series two winner of Drag Race UK.

‘Yeah, yeah, here’s one. “Ellie Diamond!”’ Rosé replied, leaving RuPaul in hysterics.

Lawrence and Ellie were, of course, finalists in the UK version of RuPaul’s Drag Race, with Lawrence hailing from Glasgow in Scotland and Ellie from Dundee.

During Drag Race UK, RuPaul made a point of frequently saying Lawrence’s name with a Scottish accent, but not doing the same with Ellie’s.

In episode four, while chatting to RuPaul alongside Lawrence in the Werk Room, Ellie made a point of asking why she didn’t give her name the same treatment in an incredibly awkward moment.

So it should come as no surprise that Rosé’s mention of Ellie’s name, said with a Scottish accent, absolutely delighted her.

In a quote-tweet of a clip from the season 13 finale, Ellie wrote: ‘Omfg p***ingggggg!!! @omgheyrose love you sis! Can’t wait to meet you! So so proud.’

Lawrence was similarly ecstatic by the shout-out, tweeting: ‘@RuPaul when I next see you, you’re doing my phones voicemail “sorry LAWREEENCEEE CHANEYYYY can’t come to the phone right now”.’

The Drag Race season 13 finale was full of jaw-dropping moments, from spectacular sartorial creations on the runway to epic lip sync performances.

Lala Ri walked away with the title of Miss Congeniality for the season, being awarded a $10,000 (£7,200) cash prize.

The finalists marked 40 years since the first recorded case of Aids by lip-syncing to Bette Midler’s Friends.

The final episode also paid homage to late season eight queen Chi Chi DeVayne, who died in August 2020 at the age of 34.

Season 13 of RuPaul’s Drag Race is available to watch on Netflix.
