‘What Has Jorge Masvidal Done to Deserve This Fight?’- Colby Covington Questions UFC 261 Matchmaking
UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington did the media rounds ahead of UFC 261 despite not competing on the card. ‘Chaos’ will be in attendance to watch Kamaru Usman attempt to ward off title challenger Jorge Masvidal in a rematch. Both men faced off against each other at UFC 251, and the unanswered questions from their battle warranted a rematch.
Colby Covington has come out in the media and remained steadfast in his view that he’s next in line. Given Covington’s strength of schedule, it hard to deny that he’s arguably the second-best welterweight right now. Moreover, he made sure to follow up his loss to Kamaru Usman with a dominant win over Tyron Woodley.

While Covington has his eye out for the victor of Usman vs Masvidal, it seems as though he’s targeting Masvidal to a greater extend. Throughout his media rounds, ‘Chaos’ Covington has made sure to instigate his former teammate. When speaking to Mike Bohn from MMA Junkie, Covington once again found a way to target ‘Gamebred’.
“What has Jorge Masvidal done to deserve this fight besides sit on the coach and do nothing? He lost the fight 50-43 last time, it was a dominant win. “There’s no excuse last time. He said ‘Oh it’s a week’s notice’.
“His friend Dustin ‘Sorrier’ came out in the media and said ‘Hey, Jorge was training with me all training camp for my lead-up to the Hooker fight and he’s ready to go against Usman last time. There was no excuse last time and there’s going to be no excuse tomorrow night.”
The D-1 All American from Oregon state will have his eyes peeled on the main event as he’s been announced as the next in line. With regards to an in-built narrative, there’s none better than Masvidal vs Covington. The classic teammate-turned-friend-turned-enemy storyline is most certainly something fans can get behind.
However, for that to happen, Masvidal will have to put a definitive end to Kamaru Usman’s reign on Saturday night.
