Pelicans’ Zion Williamson Matches Historic Feat By Michael Jordan
Zion Williamson is one of the brightest prospects in the NBA. The former Duke forward had incredible hype coming into the NBA in 2019. For many, they looked at Zion and saw the future of the NBA. And while his first season with the Pelicans was riddled with injuries, Williamson has lived up to the expectations in his sophomore year. And now, he’s matched a record that was last touched by ‘His Airness’.

New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson has scored 2000 points before the 80th game of his career. He is only the 12th athlete to be able to match that record.
In fact, the only player to be able to accomplish this in the last 40 years was none other than Michael Jordan. Williamson has been matching several of Jordan’s records this season, and this is just the latest one for Zion.
Zion Williamson has become the 12th player in NBA history to score 2,000 points before their 80th career game.
The only other player to do this in the last 40 years is Michael Jordan.

Williamson continues to show why he had so much hype coming into the NBA. In 2019, Williamson was the consensus number one overall pick in the draft.
As the Pelicans won the first pick in the draft, they selected Williamson immediately. However, his first season didn’t go to plan, because Williamson struggled with injuries throughout his first year. Williamson only played 19 games of his first season, and the Pelicans missed out on the playoffs.
Williamson continues to impress
However, this season, Williamson has been absolutely fantastic. He is currently averaging 27 points, 3 assists, and 7 rebounds per game.
Williamson’s number led him to earn his first All-Star nomination. Williamson became one of the youngest All-Stars of all time.
He has been one of the bright spots for the New Orleans Pelicans in an underwhelming season. His rise this season has been a big deal, not just for the Pelicans, but for the entire NBA.
Williamson is the leader of a young exciting core for the New Orleans Pelicans. He, along with Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball, could be a big three in the future.
The trio are showing their talent already, but it’s evident that they need to develop more going forward in their careers. But if all three can reach their potential, then the Pelicans may become one of the strongest teams in NBA history.
Can Zion Williamson become the face of the NBA? Currently, he and Luka Doncic are tipped to be the stars of the future, when LeBron James and Kevin Durant call time on their careers. However, they need to continue working hard developing so that they can achieve this.
