Portuguese Grand Prix 2021: How Many DRS Zones Are There & What Is the Tyre Allocation?

In the coming weekend on May 1st, the F1 fraternity heads to Portugal for the Portuguese Grand Prix. It is worth noting that the Algarve International Circuit only has one DRS zone, much like last year. This will be situated on the main straight and detection starts around 65 metres after the Turn 14 hairpin. Meanwhile, the DRS activation zone is located 125 metres after the high-speed Galp curve.

For the first time in the 2021 season, the drivers will have the C1 tyres available to them. In addition to that, the C2 and C3 tyres are also available for the drivers. Of course, very little is known about how many sets of each tyre will be chosen, as the allocation has not been revealed yet.

In the last two races at Bahrain and Imola saw the C2, C3 and C4 tyres in play. Now, the C1, C2 and C3 tyres will be run at Portugal and at the next race in Spain, though that’s another story.

What can fans expect from the Portuguese Grand Prix?

Last year, Lewis Hamilton won the race from teammate Valtteri Bottas. No doubt, this could make him a favourite to win on May 2nd when the race begins. However, Max Verstappen finished in 3rd place last year and he could be a force to reckon with. There may also be several drivers who will be in contention for a podium.

Of course, the likes of Perez and Bottas will be keen to start their serious campaign with a win. On the other end of the scale, Hamilton and Verstappen won’t make things easy for them. Nevertheless, everyone has to try and perform to the best of their abilities.

One thing is for sure, the 2021 Portuguese Grand Prix will be pretty exciting. The track elevations provide plenty of excitement for the viewers and even the drivers themselves.
