VIDEO: Colby Covington Makes a Cameo Appearance at UFC 261

The UFC welterweight division is on display in the main event of UFC 261, with Jorge Masvidal challenging the champion Kamaru Usman for the belt. The winner of this fight will have bragging rights over the other fighter to go with the belt. However, they’ll have their next opponent as well in Colby Covington.

Swashbuckling American Colby ‘The People’s Champ’ Covington is going to be in attendance at UFC 261. He is most likely to fight for the belt after the title fight is over. Dana White has multiply stated that Covington is next in line.

In a video uploaded by Spinnin Backfist on their Twitter account,  Covington was seen walking to when he stopped to say hi to a reporter recording him. He said hi and also said, “The real champ is here, baby.” That was really characteristic of the American as he has an entire gimmick based around him being the champion of the world.

However, it’s not for lack of trying, as he had fought Usman at UFC 245 in 2019. The fight was incredible and easily Usman’s hardest fight to date. Unfortunately, Usman got the win when he knocked Covington out and broke his jaw. Since then, the American has fought only once, while Usman has gone on to defend his belt twice against Masvidal and Gilbert Burns.

Usman’s third defense will be his most anticipated one as he will be fighting Masvidal in front of fans. Masvidal has had a full camp and will now have a fair chance in this fight. He took the first fight on short notice, and hence, fans used that as an excuse for his performance.

Colby Covington and his welterweight career

Covington’s second-last fight was particularly harmful to him as he did get knocked out. He has an amazing record of 16-2 and it snapped his winning streak of seven. He did bounce back to defeat Tyron Woodley in September of 2020 and established himself as the clear contender for the welterweight belt.

He will bounce back and no matter who he fights, Masvidal or Usman, he will make it an amazing fight.
