“Will Not Make a Drama”: Simona Halep Following Her Loss to Aryna Sabalenka at Stuttgart Open 2021

World No. 3 Simona Halep took on the fifth seed Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinal of the WTA Stuttgart Open 2021. The Belarusian raised a few eyebrows as she beat the Romanian player without much trouble. Halep went down to Sabalenka in straight sets, 3-6 2-6 in a match that lasted for only 66 minutes.

After her loss, Simona Halep was disappointed and insisted on having some chocolate to cheer herself up. She did feel the agony of the unfortunate loss and felt the need to relax. The Romanian athlete did not wish to create a drama and instead work on her flaws and perform better the next time she steps on the court.

The 29-year-old player stated, “Tonight I will have a chocolate and I will just try to relax as much as possible, even if I’m frustrated and a little bit upset about what happened. But I will not make a drama as always. I just want to see ahead what I have to do better the next time I play her.”

Simona Halep served poorly during her semifinal match in Stuttgart

In the match, Simona was let down by her serve. Having registered five double faults and managing to win only 45% of her second serve points, proved costly for the former Grand Slam champion. On the contrary, Aryna Sabalenka won more than 80% of her second serve points and managed to break her opponent thrice during the match.

The Belarusian athlete will now take on World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty in the final and will look to add the WTA Stuttgart Open 2021 to her list of titles.

Coming onto Simona and her current season, she began competing at the Australian Open. However, she lost in the quarterfinal to American legend Serena Williams.

Later, she competed in the Miami Open but had to pull off midway due to a shoulder injury. After losing in Stuttgart this week, she is scheduled to feature in the first WTA 1000 clay-court event of the season in Madrid.
