Channel 4’s How To Save A Grand In 24 Hours shared some trusty tips on how to save money on your weekly shop.
The brand new programme sees presenter Anna Richardson and a trio of experts bring their arsenal of skills together to show cash-strapped families how to reduce their outgoings.
In tonight’s episode, chef Gary Usher showed a London family of six, the Kofis, how to cut back on spending on their weekly shop by doing the most simple of measures that viewers could also put into practice.
He recommended writing a shopping list and limiting trips to the supermarket to just once a week, which will help curb spending.
‘My top tip for Mike and Shareen is to write a shopping list,’ Gary said.
‘Don’t let the supermarkets trick you. They put the chocolate next to the till, they put the milk and the bread as far away as possible. Without the list, you just get everything you don’t need.’
‘If you don’t have a list, you’re a dangerous browser,’ warned Anna.
Gary also suggested to buy food items in bulk and shopping at a wholesalers, like a cash and carry.
‘Larger items mean more money is spent on the food, not packaging,’ Anna explained.
‘Shopping in a wholesalers, rather than a supermarket, could save you up to 25%.’
