Chiefs Signing Vows to Offer Patrick Mahomes Better Protection in the Pocket

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs finished their 2020 NFL campaign on an anti-climactic note. The Chiefs suffered a 31-9 loss in the Super Bowl at the hands of Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They were totally outplayed by the Bucs who put up a defensive masterclass under the tutelage of defensive coordinator, Todd Bowles.

The Chiefs realized they need to strengthen their offensive line, especially after their embarrassing loss in Florida earlier this year. They were busy this summer bringing in a couple of free agents in an attempt to protect Patrick Mahomes better.

They brought in the likes of Joe Thuney and Austin Blythe on short-term deals this summer. Even Kyle Long came out of retirement and signed with KC on a 1-year deal. The latest player to arrive in Missouri is Baltimore Ravens OT Orlando Brown.

Speaking to the media in his first press conference as a Kansas City Chiefs player, Orlando Brown spoke about how he is looking forward to playing with 2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes.

“I look forward to keeping [Mahomes] clean. Whether he has a broken leg, healthy leg, healthy ankle — whatever the deal is, I look forward to keeping him clean. He shouldn’t have to run around because of me, period,” Brown said at his introductory press conference.

Just like his late father, Orland Brown Jr. played for the Baltimore Ravens since joining the NFL in 2018. The 24-year old was selected in the 3rd round of the 2018 NFL Draft (83rd overall).

He signed a 4-year, $3.49 million contract that included a signing bonus of $865,720. Brown was traded to the Chiefs in exchange for their first selection in the 2021 NFL Draft and additional picks.
