“Made Me Stay Home for More Than Two Weeks”: Serena Williams Reflects on Upside of the Pandemic
Twenty-three-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams is one of the most decorated players on the women’s Tour. Over the years, she has proven to be a role model for many youngsters aspiring to become professional tennis players, having remained on top of her game for over two decades.
Recently, Serena Williams spoke about her life during the pandemic. The American superstar reflected on the changes in her day-to-day activities. Before the virus wreaked havoc on the planet, Serena would always be on the move, travelling from one city to another most of the year. But with the pandemic break coming into effect last year, she spent time with her family, especially her daughter.
The former World No. 1 expressed herself and stated, “I have really enjoyed being able to be around my daughter. As a tennis player, I’ve been travelling my whole life and this pandemic made me stay home for more than two weeks and I was happy just to be at home at one place and not to be on an aeroplane.”
Serena Williams fascinated by technology
The American athlete stayed home for a course of two weeks after a long time. Besides, Williams being a tech-savvy individual was happy to see the world make use of technology during this phase. Instead of travelling to different cities for meetings, people could get it done sitting in their homes.
The 39-year-old athlete further added, “The person in me that loves technology was like I told you we should be doing these zoom meetings or these webinars. We should be doing them for years. I’ve been saying this for years and there’s no need to travel to New York for a meeting we can do this right now.”
Moving onto Serena’s current season, she competed in the Australian Open but failed to go past the semifinal. After that, she has not featured in any tournament. She intends to resume her season on the clay courts of Rome. The WTA Italian Open 2021 will be held just before the French Open, and she will look to add to her Grand Slam tally.
