Nico Hulkenberg Jokes About Losing Out on Red Bull Seat: ‘Then I Will Cry’

Nico Hulkenberg has been out of Formula One since 2019. However, we did get a chance to see the Hulk when he stepped in for Racing Point last season. He certainly did impress a few teams at the paddock and was in talks with Red Bull. However, Sergio Perez showed his talents and ended being offered the contract. Now seeing the Milton-Keynes do well, it certainly hurts him stated Hulkenberg.

However, things aren’t too bad for the German driver. He is currently a reserve driver for Mercedes and Aston Martin and will step whenever the opportunity arises.

The 2021 season still has a long way to go, and fans can’t wait to see the Hulk back on the track, fighting against his rivals. He might just be able to prove Red Bull wrong if given the chance.

Nico Hulkenberg says seeing Red Bull do so well haunts him

Speaking to Ziggo Sport as quoted by PlanetF1, Hulkenberg said, “I’d better not watch Red Bull because then I will cry. I don’t think about it. I’ve been in talks with the team throughout the second half of last year.”

“The last few races, that period when Perez started to do really well, that victory in Bahrain, then it was over,” Nico concluded.

Mercedes almost signed Hulkenberg if Hamilton didn’t agree, reveals Brawn

It is hard not to see Lewis Hamilton without thinking of Mercedes. But Ross Brawn revealed that if Lewis hadn’t put pen to paper they would have opted for the German instead.

Brawn said, “I almost signed him years ago, when I was in charge at Mercedes. If Lewis hadn’t joined Mercedes when he did, Nico was our next choice.”

I’ve always respected Nico enormously as a driver. He’s a very strong driver who should be in Formula 1,” Brawn explained.

The Silver Arrows have their seats occupied by Hamilton and Bottas, but if the need arises, Hulkenberg would be given the opportunity to prove to himself and everyone else that he isn’t done with F1 yet. What do you think Nico, would he succeed at Mercedes if he had joined? Let us know in the comments below.
