Youn Yuh-Jung waved off questions about Brad Pitt in the most brilliant of ways as she was greeted by reported backstage after winning the best supporting actress Oscar on Sunday evening.

The Minari star has fawned over Brad Pitt after he presented her with her gong, which tickled punters on social media.

However, asked what Brad smelled like after he presented her with the Oscar, Youn wasn’t having it, as she said: ‘I didn’t smell him, I’m not a dog. No.’

On stage, Youn seemed starstruck by Brad, whose company produced the film, as she said: ‘Oh, Mr. Pitt, finally it’s nice to meet you.

‘Where were you while we were filming in person?’

She added as the audience laughed: ‘Still nice to meet you.’

Youn also paid tribute to the other nominees in the category saying she ‘doesn’t believe in competition’, while questioning how she could win over fellow nominee Glenn Close.

Referring to all the other nominees, she added that she had perhaps won because ‘I’m luckier than you… also maybe American hospitality for Korean actor, I’m not sure but thank you so much’.

Mentioning her children she said: ‘My two boys who made me go out and work… this is the result because mummy worked so hard…’.

Elsewhere in her backstage address, she welcomed greater diversity in the film industry, after becoming the first Korean actress to win in the best supporting actress category.

The South Korean actress, 73, has long been an established star in her homeland but became known in Hollywood thanks to Minari.

Speaking to reporters after her win, Youn said storytelling was improved by including more diverse voices.

She said: ‘It’s very nice to understand each other and we should embrace each other because people are categorised like black, white, yellow, brown, something like that. That’s not a nice way to just divide like that.

‘I think if we put the colour together, make it more prettier, even rainbow has seven colours. Colour doesn’t matter, gender doesn’t matter. I don’t like to divide like this, men, women or black or white, yellow or brown. We are equal human beings, we have the same warm hearts.’
