Sally Phillips has revealed that her quest for a Smack The Pony reboot has been rejected by broadcasters.

The British sketch show, which starred Sally, Doon Mackinchan and Fiona Allen, originally aired between 1999 and 2003 on Channel 4.

The comedy followed the three female comics as they dealt with a wide variety of topics, from irritating flatmates to workplace issues, and proved to be a popular hit with a regular audience of around 2.5million viewers.

However, after three series and two specials, the Smack The Pony was scrapped and has only reappeared once for a Comic Relief skit in 2017.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk earlier this month about whether it would ever see the light of day again, Sally shared that she has been pushing for a reboot but to no avail.

‘We go through phases of pitching it to people and nobody really wants it,’ she said.

‘Fiona Allen really is the engine behind that so she’s always seeing if anyone wants it and we have had gone through periods of pitching it to the channels and being very optimistic and then people saying no.’

She added: ‘We pitched it the three of us together in lots of different environments and they’ve said no to that too.’

Reboots appear to be all the rage at the minute, with Channel 4 confirming it’s giving Changing Rooms a new lease of life.

Across the pond, Dexter has been confirmed for a new series, as has Sex And The City.
