We have some feelings about Questlove’s gold Crocs as he wears divisive footwear on Oscars red carpet

Questlove at Oscars.
Only Questlove can rock such a look on the Oscars red carpet…

Sure it’s been a while since we’ve seen a red carpet, but Questlove has made sure to bring some of the lockdown vibes of the past year to Oscars 2021 as he rocked a pair of gold Crocs.

Seriously. Crocs X Oscars happened. But if anyone can pull off such a look, usually relegated to, well, not the biggest event in the Hollywood calendar, it The Roots’ star, right?

Even better is he wore the divisive footwear with socks, as he sauntered down the carpet otherwise suited up on Sunday evening.

Questlove is the musical director for this year’s event, which is looking quite different this year – aside from the questionable Crocs – with social-distancing and lots of masks on the red carpet, but not a Zoom connection in sight.

And anticipating some hoodies, which have been rocked at the pandemic awards shows so far, Oscars producers Steven Soderbergh, Stacey Sher and Jesse Collins previously sent a letter to all nominees that stipulated the formal dress code.

It read: ‘If you’re wondering about the dress code (as well you should), we’re aiming for a fusion of inspirational and aspirational, which in actual words means formal is totally cool if you want to go there but casual is really not.’

When it came to Questlove’s jazzed-up footwear, though, fans who tuned into the pre-show coverage were tickled by the musician’s style.

Some demanded to know where they can find their own pair of gold Crocs, as others felt it was all sorts of 2021 chaotic vibes.

‘I would like to talk about @questlove’s gold crocs,’ one Twitter user simply said, as another added: ‘It’s been a full 10 minutes and I haven’t stopped thinking about Questlove’s gold crocs.’

Dear social media user, we think we’ll be thinking about these shoes for a while…

Stars have well and truly brought it on the red carpet this year, Crocs or not Crocs, as, in spite of the coronavirus pandemic having played havoc with entertainment events and award ceremonies around the world, this is one event which is going ahead as normally as possible.

However there will be some changes to the usual format, with the show taking place both from the Dolby Theatre and from Los Angeles’ Union Station, as this year’s nominees gather to see who’ll be taking one of those coveted golden statuettes home.

Yet again this year’s event will remain hostless. Instead, there will be a super-glitzy array of A-list presenters including Brad Pitt, Halle Berry, Reese Witherspoon and Harrison Ford.
