The Noel Clarke-led series follows a police surveillance investigation into a tight knit community and explores whether it is ever possible observe the lives of others with true objectivity and zero effect.

The hotly-anticipated drama has been co-created by Fleabag director Harry Bradbeer and Manhunt writer Ed Whitmore and is described by ITV as ‘a contemporary, character-driven mystery with a seductively intimate feel’.

What’s different about Viewpoint, is that it’s shot as if the audience are looking into someone else’s window.

Viewpoint is also filmed in Manchester. Westbury Square is actually St John Street in Manchester city centre, a highly sought after area famed for its Georgian townhouses.

The properties here boast of huge windows, making it the ideal spot for surveillance.

Besides St John Street, viewers will be able to spy other famous hot spots, such as the Northern Quater, Manchester Town Hall, Lloyd Street, and Central Street.

Viewpoint producer Ashley Way said that shooting in Manchester is a ‘dream’ for filmmakers.

‘Manchester is a beautiful place,’ they shared. It’s a modern city that is very much rooted in its industrial past, which for a filmmaker is a dream.

‘There are many rich architectural textures, showing its traditional past alongside its modern future. You often see a lot of Castlefields and the Northern Quarter but we wanted to show people the concrete and glass, and the beautiful Georgian streets that it’s not necessarily known for.’

They continued: ‘I didn’t want to do what was expected with this story as it’s important the audience are kept guessing and we chose all of our locations based on that idea as well.

‘We wanted to energise the story with all these architectural styles. Thankfully Manchester has all that in abundance.’

Viewpoint kicks off tonight at 9pm on ITV.
