Atlanta Falcons GM Admits Difficult Cap Situation Could See Them Trade Julio Jones

The Atlanta Falcons find themselves in a scenario no franchise would wish to be in. To free up some cap space, the franchise could have to trade its star player. And that star player is none other than Julio Jones.

The wide receiver was drafted by the franchise back in 2011. And it’s safe to say that since then, the sixth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft has made quite a name for himself.

The wide receiver has made it to seven Pro Bowls, is a two-time All-Pro and was even to the NFL’s All-Decade 2010 Team. Thus losing a player of his caliber is a tough blow.

But such is the situation that the Atlanta Falcons find themselves in. Something that’s acknowledged by Falcons GM Terry Fontenot.

Trading Julio Jones a realistic possibility

Rumors of a Julio Jones were making the rounds since yesterday. And when Fontenot was asked to give his thoughts about the speculation, the Falcons GM said it sure is a possibility.

“That’s one of those things when you’re doing things the right way as an organization, you have to listen if people call on any player,” Fontenot told Fox 5 Sports.

“We are in a difficult cap situation. That’s just the circumstance. It’s not a surprise for us. We knew the circumstance we were in. Our administration has done an excellent job up to this point getting us in a position to be able to manage the cap. Yet, we still have more work to do,” he added.

Fontenot said that when teams call, one has to listen to every offer to do what’s best for the organization.

“When teams call about any players, we have to listen, and we have to weigh it and we have to determine what’s best for the organization, and we have to handle everything with class.”

Talking about Julio Jones, in particular, Fontenot said that despite his talent and contributions, the franchise will entertain calls to cater to the bigger picture.

“Obviously, that particular player we hold him in high regard. He’s special what he’s done and what he continues to do here, but we have to consider any player if it’s right for the team, because we have to do what’s right for the team.”

With Julio Jones on the market, which franchise should bring out the big guns to pull off the massive trade?
