Burning Man 2021 is the latest festival to be axed this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Organisers were forced to cancel the annual event, which takes place at Black Rock City in Nevada, United States, for the second time in a row as the Covid-19 crisis continues.

It follows the likes of Download Festival in the UK, which was also scrapped earlier this month.

An announcement on Facebook confirmed the news of Burning Man’s fate, with a statement reading: ‘The past 14 months have been a turbulent journey of evolution and change for every human on this planet.

‘We have had to adapt to the twists and turns of a global crisis, complex public health information, and the growing hope that we can start rebuilding our lives together soon.

‘Although here in the United States we may be feeling the weight lifting and the light at the end of the tunnel brightening, we are still in the pandemic, and the uncertainties that need to be resolved are impossible to do so in the time we have.

‘We have decided to set our sights on Black Rock City 2022. We have the time now to imagine what we can bring to BRC 2022 that will really make a difference.’

Although Burning Man won’t be going ahead this year, a number of festivals in the UK have been confirmed, including Reading & Leeds.

Festival-goers were forced to go without in 2020, as annual music events were cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic.

However, things could be looking up in 2021 as the government has announced its roadmap to easing lockdown restrictions by the end of June.

If all goes to plan, June 21 could see hospitality venues and nightclubs reopen, with large events given the green light to go ahead with full crowds.
