Ferrari Has ‘Jeopardized’ and Given up on Their 2021 F1 Season, Claims Former Renault Boss

Ferrari have gotten to a better start than they did last season. The Scuderia currently sits in fourth place with just two races completed. They are already thinking of the 2022 season when the new regulations come in. Therefore, the former team principal of Renault Flavio Briatore thinks that the Italian team should think of the present rather than the future.

The Maranello-based team had a good result in the opening round in Bahrain. As Charles Leclerc came home P6 and their new recruit Carlos Sainz crossed the line in P8.

At their home race at Imola, Leclerc came home P4 and Sainz P5. They two hope to improve on their form and bring better results in the upcoming race in Portugal.

Ferrari shouldn’t focus on 2022, says, Briatore

On a radio program, La Politica nel Pallone as quoted by Speedweek.com, Briatore said, “The season has barely started and they are already talking about 2022. They are jeopardizing third place in the World Cup, which they are for themselves set the season goal, which is difficult enough – even with two great racing drivers like Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.”

“The car is undoubtedly more competitive than in 2020. But what Ferrari is really worth will only be seen in 2022, when Formula 1 starts with new regulations. Then it has to be seen whether a third or fourth place in the World Championship is perhaps the maximum for Ferrari,” he concluded. Team principal, Mattia Binotto looks to the future to help the team

The lackluster power unit, saw the Italian team suffer horribly last year. The team only scored 131 points and finished 6th in the championship. With the new rules coming in next year, Binotto hopes the improvements can help the team get back on top.

Binotto said, “Hopefully by next year, when we will again have a new power unit, we may catch up or have a benchmark for the others. I think on the aero as well – medium and high-speed downforce.”

“I think it’s an entire package again. But now the differences are closer and closer. More important is I think we are working in the right direction with the right tools and that will make us stronger in the future.”

The next race is in Portugal, the Italian team have been impressive in the first two races of the season. They would aim for a win or a podium finish in the upcoming weekend. Leclerc and Sainz will aim to extract the maximum out of the car and bring home a better result.
