‘I’d Still Be Champion Man’ – Andy Ruiz Jr. Regrets Coming in Overweight for Anthony Joshua Rematch

This weekend, the former unified heavyweight champion, Andy Ruiz Jr. will lock horns against Chris Arreola in a 12-round war. The Mexican-American boxer is making a comeback into this fight after nearly two years. He is ecstatic to uncover his recent version and prowess in the ring, thus vanquishing Arreola from his way.

Ahead of the fight, Ruiz Jr. was in an interview with Fight Hub TV. Here, the reporter asked him what would have happened if he was in his current shape for the Anthony Joshua rematch in 2019.

To which, he responded, “I would have still been champion. I’d still be a champion man. That’s why I said, don’t ask me to this day and my heart and I know exactly what to do what not to do now because I went on 12-rounds been overweight, not training.”

In 2019 summer, ‘The Destroyer’ shook up the entire boxing fraternity by dispatching Anthony Joshua with a vicious T/KO in the fight. He dropped ‘AJ’ multiple times in the fight and annihilated him to the pulp.

Consequently, the Brit didn’t have any answers for Ruiz Jr.’s brilliance, and he succumbed to a lopsided loss in this fight.

Yet, in their rematch, Ruiz Jr. couldn’t sustain the momentum and ended up on the losing vertical. He weighed in at 283. 7 lbs for this rematch and he unquestionably feels that it was one of the prime reasons for his loss. After this fight, ‘The Destroyer’ abruptly went out of the sport and is coming back to make a statement on Saturday.

Can Andy Ruiz Jr. fetch a long pathway in the sport with his current shape and mindset?

Past few months, the 31-year-old has immersed himself in extremely grilling workouts. He even changed his trainer and is working under Eddy Reynoso’s wing now.

That said, Ruiz Jr. is thrilled to make an astonishing comeback to the game and subsequently get his hands on the title.

More than anyone else, ‘The Destroyer’ himself wants to trace a legendary pathway in the sport now. Henceforth, he won’t look to budge an inch from the same.
