40-year-old Chris Arreola hasn’t donned a world championship in his career and has apparently been the ‘gatekeeper’ boxer for several fans. However, he has faced several elites in his journey, and despite failing to win the big fights, Arreola has left his mark on the sport.
Boasting a record of 38 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw, ‘The Nightmare’ is still suitable in the active title ride. Chris Arreola vs Vitali Klitschko- A complete heavyweight feast
Arreola suffered the maiden loss of his career in his first world title fight against Klitschko in 2009. 27-0 as professional, Chris Arreola was looked at as a perfect successor to Klitschko’s championship reign. He had his legitimate chances inside the ring, and many favored him to win the fight.
However, Klitschko’s experience and skills complicated the matchup for Arreola. The Mexican pugilist struggled to land his best shots and got clipped several times. Although Klitschko began dominating the contest, Arreola continued responding.
‘The Nightmare’ appeared weary after contracting a few strong jabs from Klitschko. He had his minor moments in the ring and successfully planted a few shots, but they weren’t enough to seal the win. As the fight went till the tenth round, Klitschko had almost dismantled his opposition. Arreola was bloodied up and had very little to offer.
But he didn’t give up and seemed eager to dance till the final bell. Nevertheless, his injuries were too deep, and as he sat on the corner, the referee intervened and waived off the fight. Unfortunately, Arreola had to depart without the world titles, alongside a scratchy loss in his career.
Following the defeat, Arreola had a career of ups and downs. He tried his hands on the world title twice after that against Bermane Stiverne and Deontay Wilder, but failed on both occasions. While many considered him to be out of relevancy, he is still trying to enter the championship ride.
