Yuh-jung Youn reveals Jordan Peele’s heartwarming gift message after historic Oscars win
Jordan Peele congratulated Yuh-jung Youn on her Oscars win by sending her a bottle of champagne and a sweet accompanying note.
Yuh-jung took home an Academy Award for best supporting actress at Sunday’s ceremony for her role in Minari, making history in the process as the first Korean woman to pick up the gong.
Revealing Jordan’s kind gesture the following morning during an interview with CBS This Morning, the actress began by stating she didn’t go to any after parties because she was ‘exhausted’.
‘There was very honour, I think, he’s a very famous comedian who became a director,’ she said. ‘What’s his lat name? Jordan Peele.’ (sic)
‘He sent me the bottle of champagne, Dom Pérignon, and the card said, “I see you”,’Yuh-jung continued. ‘That was very sweet of him to do that.’
She added: ‘This is honour because my son likes him. He’s a huge fan of him.’
What a babe!
Road movie Nomadland won the top prize at the Oscars, where director Chloe Zhao, who was born in China, also made history as the first woman of colour to win the award for directing and the second woman.
The ceremony also saw Sir Anthony Hopkins win the best actor Oscar, defeating the late Chadwick Boseman, while Daniel Kaluuya won the best supporting actor prize.
Nomadland, which tells the story about a woman travelling through the American West, also scooped a best actress prize for its star Frances McDormand.
This year’s event was far from standard, with a completely pared-down audience and strict coronavirus restrictions in place.
