Bob Arum Reveals the Likely Opponent for Oscar Valdez’s First Title Defense
Oscar Valdez beat Miguel Berchelt with an electrifying knockout in February to grab the world title. Now, he is all set to return in just about six months to defend his spot atop the mountain. The newly crowned WBC super featherweight champion seems to have received the offer for his first title defense. He could put his belts on the line against his amateur nemesis Robson Conceicao in August or September.
Top Rank Kingpin Bob Arum connected with Boxing Scene and shed light on Valdez’s first title defense. While Robson Conceicao had beaten Valdez in the amateur level, Arum has already cited it to be a good fight.
“We’re planning a Valdez fight against Conceicao. That’s a good fight,” said Bob Arum.
Meanwhile, Oscar Valdez’s manager, Frank Espinosa, has also hailed the Olympic gold medalist Robson Conceicao. He claimed Valdez would be very interested in this fight.
16-0 as a pro, ‘Nino’ Conceicao has gone on a tear in the 130 lbs division. He has 8 knockouts under his belt and is on the verge of grabbing a title. Hence, the Brazilian might not hesitate to put on a clinical show against Valdez, to ensure his victory.
Arum continued, “That’s a tough, good fight. Oscar figures to win but the other guy, Conceicao, is an Olympic gold medalist, undefeated and he beat Oscar in the amateurs. He’s not a concussive puncher, but he’s very skillful. It’s a tough fight. Without (Eddy) Reynoso (as Valdez’s trainer) I would make it a much closer fight. (Conceicao) is very excited.”

Oscar Valdez vs Robson Conceicao: Preview
Oscar Valdez will walk into the bout with a height and reach disadvantage against Robson Conceicao. This may have fans positioning the challenger as the favorite, but Valdez is a champion who has negated many on-paper disadvantages.
He has been unfazed by any challenge and can rightfully avenge the amateur loss against ‘Nino’. While both men will put their unbeaten record on the line, the world title fight can be severely intense to watch. Valdez and Conceicao will have their chances to win.
