Can Trevor Lawrence Replicate the Success of Aaron Rodgers?

Trevor Lawrence enters the 2021 NFL Draft as one of the highest-rated draft prospects in NFL history. The quarterback from Clemson has wowed fans for years with his performances for the Tigers.

The 6’6″ quarterback burst onto the scene in his freshman year with the Tigers. Going undefeated, Lawrence guided Clemson to a 44-16 victory over Alabama during the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship game.

The quarterback had a stellar 2020 campaign as well and ended up as one of the finalists of the Heisman Trophy. Thanks to his incredible performances, the quarterback is the unanimous #1 overall pick heading into the draft.

Every NFL athlete’s dream is to win a Super Bowl. And that’s something that Lawrence too will undoubtedly look to achieve. But not many are fortunate enough to live the dream.

And even fewer have been able to carry their franchise to the title. Among one of them is Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. So with Lawrence entering the draft with sky-high expectations, the question begs to be asked. Can Trevor Lawrence replicate the success of Aaron Rodgers?

Trevor Lawrence has the potential to match Rodgers’ success

Trevor Lawrence is unlikely to have a draft day experience similar to that of Aaron Rodgers. For the Packers QB, the draft day was a painful experience as he slipped down the ranks and was drafted 26th overall by the franchise. All this despite being touted as a top 5 pick.

Rodgers sat out the first three seasons of his NFL career. Named the starter in 2008, Rodgers guided the Packers to a Super Bowl win in 2010. Since then Aaron Rodgers has been named NFL MVP thrice.

So Lawrence achieve similar success in the NFL? It’s a tall order to replicate what Aaron Rodgers has achieved in his NFL career so far. But if there’s one QB from the upcoming draft class who can match it, one’s best bet would be Trevor Lawrence.

The QB certainly has the skillset and poise to make it big in the league. Blessed with great arm strength, athleticism, and massive frame, Lawrence has the tools to tear apart NFL defenses.

Reaching Rodgers’ level of success though will take some time. One has to remember that the Jaguars are a team looking to rebuild. Going 1-15 last season is what allows them to land a talent like Lawrence.

With Aaron Rodgers in the twilight years of his career, it’s an exciting time for NFL fans to see Trevor Lawrence take over the league.
