‘Credit to Jorge’- Israel Adesanya Breaks Down Kamaru Usman vs Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was just like any other fight fan on April 24, 2021, when watching UFC 261. The PPV over-delivered with a main card that will most definitely go down as one for the ages. Adesanya posted a reaction video to his YouTube channel that saw him react to the fights as they played out.

The entire night of fights was a rollercoaster of emotions, and Adesanya’s reaction was indicative of that. Right from Chris Weidman’s freak leg injury to Rose Namajunas’ KO over Zhang Weili, Adesanya’s reactions kept on ramping up. However, the blockbuster main event commanded Israel Adesanya’s full attention, and he comprehensively broke down the welterweight title fight.

The Last Stylebender’ had plenty of takeaways from watching Kamaru Usman’s improved striking against Jorge Masvidal. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ landed a fight-finishing right hand to Masvidal’s jaw in the second round that put him out. Adesanya was incredibly impressed with Usman’s win and exalted him as the king of Miami’s 305 after defeating Masvidal.

“I knew he [Usman] was going to f**k him up, and he said he was going to finish him but to do it like that. I saw the way he parried the right hand and then sent his one, pop! And you can see like Jorge kind of got jellied and then fell like he was kind of limp before he hit the ground and he kind of got woken back up and then put to sleep again.

“But that’s the king of the 305, Kamaru Usman. Credit to Jorge as well for giving him his props and no excuses. Took it like a man, took an L on the chin, respect.”

Chiefly, Adesanya is one of the best strikers in the UFC, and his word on the matter carries a lot of water. He was able to recognize Usman’s nuanced techniques in the immediate aftermath of the fight, thus showcasing his own fight IQ. Usman’s performance will certainly fuel ‘The Last Stylebender’ to put his best foot forward against Marvin Vettori at UFC 263 and prove to the world that the split decision in their first fight was a mere one-off.
