Kelly Osbourne thought she could drink ‘like a normal person’.

The 36-year-old star revealed earlier this month she had briefly relpased after almost four years sober, saying she was ‘not proud’ but was taking things one day at a time.

The singer explained she had her ‘nervous breakdown’ at a time when life was going well, but she quickly realised she needs to avoid alcohol entirely.

She told Extra: ‘I don’t know why my nervous breakdown happened at the end of the lockdown.

‘I made it all the way through, everything was great and my life was perfect. I’m that girl that when everything is going great, I need to f*** it up a little and make everything a little bit worse in my life.

‘I am an addict and had thought that I had enough time under my belt, and I could drink like a normal person. And it turns out, I cannot, and I will never be normal. I don’t know why I even tried it. It’s not for me, and it took me a matter of days, and I was like, “Done, not doing this.”’

Kelly, who shot to fame alongside her famous family on MTV’s The Osbournes, thought she was no longer an addict because all aspects of her life were ‘so great’.

She added: ‘I got all of my career goals happening. And then I got happy ’cause I got this incredible boyfriend, and everything in my life is so great, and I’m like, I’m not an addict anymore.

‘It all just got too much.’

Kelly, who is in a relationship with Erik Bragg, felt it was important to be honest about her relapse because she believes accountability can help others going through their own struggles.

‘This is something I am going to battle for the rest of my life,’ she said.

‘It’s never going to be easy. Through being accountable and owning your own journey and sharing what you can, though, you can help other people. That’s why I came clean. I could have sat here, and nobody would know.’

Kelly shared her relapse on Instagram, telling fans: ‘This is a little hard for me to talk about but I’ve always promised you that I will be honest with you about where I’m at and what’s going on in my road to recovery.

‘I relapsed. I’m not proud of it but I am back on track and I will be doing a podcast where I tell everybody about what’s going on and what happened.

‘I just want to let you know that I am sober today and hopefully I’ll be sober tomorrow. And it truly is just one day at a time.’

The star has been open about her struggles with drink and drugs over the years, and previously said she didn’t think she would make it to 35 as ‘a lot of my friends didn’t make it’.

Speaking on friend Fat Tony’s podcast The Recovery, Kelly said: ‘I never truly slept, I would pass out from whatever I drank or took and came to… I don’t know how I did it for as long as I did. I embalmed my body.’

Recalling the moment she decided to get help, she shared: ‘I hadn’t been to a grocery store in three years or done normal things.

‘I thought, “I don’t want to live like this any more,” I’d put blackout curtains in my house so I didn’t know what time it was. I realised I wasn’t going to make it. I’d be dead, if I keep doing this.’
