Serena Williams Initiates Preparation for the Elusive 24th Major Title at the French Open 2021

Former world number one and 23-time grand slam champion Serena Williams is in the pursuit of claiming her 24th grand slam title over the past few years. She was denied of the milestone by players like Simona Halep, Naomi Osaka, and Bianca Andreescu.

The American player is largely selective in her tournament appearances to have a balance between personal and professional life. With the French Open nearby, she left for France to train with her long-time coach, Patrick Mouratoglou.

In a video shared by the coach on his Instagram, Serena was hitting a few forehand drives on the red turf. Patrick captioned the video, “Look who’s reunited.”

The legendary tennis player won three French Open titles(2002, 2013, and 2015) in her long career. She was invincible in the 2013 clay-court season, winning five titles on the surface, including Roland Garros.

Last year, Serena had to withdraw from the tournament due to an Achilles injury. Even though she was one of the leading contenders for the French Open crown, the WTA tour has a long list of clay-court specialists that may look to outpower her in Paris.

Serena is desperately looking to win her 24th grand slam title

From the young sensation Iga Swiatek to Simona Halep, the American has to compete with a talented crop of players to win the elusive 24th major title.

The American ditched the Madrid Masters this year and might play the Italian Open to improve her chances of winning the French. Serena won the Rome event four times in her career (2002, 2013, 2014, 2016).

With each passing year, it is getting harder and harder for the American to win another grand slam. With the WTA tour producing a new grand slam champion almost every year, it becomes impossible to pick a player who is most likely to win a title.

The unpredictability of the women’s tour is what makes it exciting and interesting to watch. With the emergence of new talent, Serena needs to be at her best on clay this year to win her fourth French Open title.
