John Barrowman has praised his Doctor Who role of Captain Jack Harkness for ‘changing his life’ amid heavy rumours he’s about to return to the show once more.

The actor has played the pansexual immortal time traveller for the past 16 years, making guest appearances when the Doctor needs his help on his/her latest adventures.

He later led the cast of spin-off series, Torchwood, which ran from 2006 to 2011.

Speaking on the official YouTube channel, John said that is more than willing to return to the show, considering it a ‘no-brainer’ if he’s ever asked.

‘Captain Jack changed my life,’ he said. ‘It was also a character who changed the face of television because we’d never seen anybody like him before, who was unapologetic about who he was and who he loved. It literally was groundbreaking.

‘So, for me, Jack has not only been life-changing but Jack has opened up other doors for me.

‘So that’s why, at the drop of a hat, if someone says to me: “We want you to come back and play Jack.” Absolutely. It’s a no-brainer.’

John delighted fans with a comeback during the New Year’s Eve episode, Revolution of The Daleks, joining Jodie Whittaker, Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill.

His comments come just as it was announced he will feature in a Doctor Who theatrical experience called Time Fracture, which will set fans off on an adventure to the 1940s in a bid to close a rift in space.

Joining David Bradley, who portrayed the First Doctor following the death of original actor William Hartnell, he will appear via pre-recorded messages throughout the production.

Fans are also speculating he will appear in the upcoming season 13, which may be the final series of Jodie Whittaker as The Doctor.

A new graphic novel based on his character sparked the rumours after the synopsis leaked it will ‘tie in with episode two’ of the upcoming series.

The BBC has not commented on the rumours.

Doctor Who is available on BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
