Rumours of next gen versions of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order have been confirmed by Disney, as well as massive discounts on the original editions.

Its existence had already been let slip by a German age rating listing but now it’s confirmed: dedicated PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are being released this summer.

The announcement on the official Star Wars website doesn’t offer much in the way of details, just the promise of ‘a number of technical improvements’ and the fact that it will be a free cross-generation upgrade for current owners.

The reveal was made in the run up to Star Wars Day on May 4 (May the 4th be with you, geddit?), which apart from anything else will see discounts on a whole range of Star Wars games.

Fallen Order on last gen formats and the PC will be 70% off for both standard and deluxe editions, from April 28 to May 12, while everything from Squadrons and Battlefront 2 to a Star Wars themed The Sims expansion pack will also see major discounts.

Star Wars Day is often used by licensees to announce new products and that could include Star Wars games, and at the very least is probably when details of the next gen versions of Fallen Order will be revealed.

Other than the new (and recently delayed) Lego tie-in it’s still unclear what the next big Star Wars game will be, as while Fallen Order’s success all but guarantees a sequel, and Ubisoft is known to be working on an open world game, neither seem to be close to release.

That means it’s unlikely you’ll hear about either next week, although there’s probably more chance of seeing the recently leaked Knights Of The Old Republic remake by Aspyr.

There could even be a brand new game announcement, now that Disney has started giving the Star Wars licence to more than just EA, but only Yoda knows how likely that is.
