Alison Hammond has confirmed that Line of Duty’s bent copper ‘H’ will be revealed in the series six finale while announcing them as a guest on Monday’s This Morning.

In the lead-up to the final episode of the BBC crime drama on Sunday, fans have been speculating whether the corrupt police officer known as ‘H’ – and referred to be Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) as ‘The Fourth Man’ – will finally be unmasked.

Phillip Schofield hinted at their reveal earlier in the week on This Morning, telling viewers that a ‘very exciting guest’ from Line of Duty would be making an appearance next week… while refraining from giving any further details on their identity.

But on Friday’s edition of the ITV talk show, Alison provided clear-cut confirmation that it will be ‘H’ in the studio.

As she and her co-host Dermot O’Leary signed off the programme, Alison stated: ‘Following Line of Duty’s Sunday night show we’re going to have “H” on the sofa.’

She added: ‘It’s not “H” from Steps,’ in reference to the pop group’s member Ian ‘H’ Watkins.

Dermot’s jaw dropped at Alison’s announcement, before the presenter let out an excited scream.

One viewer expressed their hope that it’ll be Anna Maxwell Martin, who plays DCS Patricia Carmichael in the drama.

However, earlier in the week another This Morning viewer said that they don’t think she will turn out to be ‘H’, as the actor already made a recent appearance on the programme.

There are many people who believe ‘H’ will be unveiled as Marcus Thurwell (James Nesbitt), who has so far only appeared on Line of Duty in photographs.

One Line of Duty theory points towards ‘H’ being Thurwell… or even dedicated bent copper hunter Hastings.

The theory is that when Dot Cottan (Craig Parkinson) died in the series three finale, he was tapping his fingers to indicate the corrupt officer being a specific person.

‘So they made a big thing in the last episode of season 5 about dots dying declaration being morse code. I actually think this was something called ‘Tap Code’ which is used by prisoners, so fits with dots OCG links,’ a Reddit post explained.

‘Dot tapped 4 times, paused and then tapped another 4 times which gives the letter T. Thurwell. He also may have been in fact blinking the second letter with his eyes as he already gave the first letter clue, H, which fits with Thurwell.’

Intriguing theory! Let’s just see if it holds up when Sunday’s finale airs.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and the Line of Duty finale is on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
