“Front Row Seat”: Coach Patrick Mouratoglou Shares Serena Williams’ Insane Prep for French Open 2021

Tennis queen Serena Williams is not going to play at the ongoing WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open 2021, but this does not mean that she is spending her time away from tennis. Instead, she is invested in her preparations for the clay season finale, the French Open 2021.

Presently, the 23-time Grand Slam champion is at the Patrick Mouratoglou Academy in France.

Coach shares a video clip of Serena Williams’ preparations for Roland Garros

Unsurprisingly, the French coach Patrick Mouratoglou is as much invested in winning another major title as Serena is. Therefore, he is also filled with energy in practice sessions with the tennis champion.

Patrick also shared a clip from Serena’s first training session on the clay surface. Going by the intensity, it is clear that Serena is ready to give her best again. The coach captioned the video, “Front-row seat for Serena Williams’ first training session on clay ahead of Roland-Garros.”

Notably, Serena is a three-time French Open champion; she won it for the third time back in 2015. In 2016, she failed to defend her title, losing to Spaniard Garbine Muguruza in straight sets.

Since then, the American professional has not entered the quarterfinals stage even once in Paris. Considering her decision to begin preparations a month ahead, she looks serious about improving her results on clay this year.

But before playing at any Grand Slam tournament, having enough match time is crucial. But since Serena has opted out of Madrid Open, the Italian Open seems to be the next right choice. Soon, she will confirm whether she will play in Rome or not.

What are Serena’s chances of winning the French Open?

Earlier in 2021, Serena returned to the court in Australia, promising a great season to her fans. However, after her disappointing loss to Naomi Osaka at the Australian Open 2021 semifinal, she didn’t play again.

Since she has restarted her training, it is fair to assume that she will play a tournament at the earliest. Her performances before going to Paris would play a vital role in her chances at a French Open glory. Can Williams win her long-awaited 24th Grand Slam in Paris?
