She was described as a “lively girl” who loved “singing songs and dancing” in an obituary.

“She brought both immeasurable love and joy to her family, friends, and community,” the tribute read, while stressing the “big impact” that she made in her life.

The little girl immigrated to the state from a refugee camp in Thailand when she was just one year old.

She is survived by her parents, Mu Mu and He Lars, and little brother Michael.

Following the tragic news, the Minnesota Department of Health said they were “deeply saddened” by the loss.

“While COVID-related deaths in children are rare, they can occur even in otherwise healthy children,” a statement said.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, three children in the state have died under the age of 18 due to the deadly virus.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called Day’s death “simply heartbreaking.”

Meanwhile, Minnesota Department of Education Commissioner Dr Heather Mueller said that the tragic incident hammers home how deadly the virus is.

“This sadly reinforces that the pandemic is not over and the precautions that we are taking are not just for our own safety, but for all Minnesotans – including our youngest students who are not yet eligible for the vaccine,” she said in a statement.

“We must finish out the school year strong.”

In the United States, over 575,000 people have died from Covid with at least 32million recorded cases.
