Paul Rudd has undergone an incredible transformation for his role in The Shrink Next Door, looking unrecognisable while sporting white hair on set.

The Shrink Next Door, an upcoming TV series for Apple TV Plus, is based on the podcast of the same name by Wondery.

The podcast tells the story of Dr Isaac ‘Ike’ Herschkopf, who worked as a psychiatrist to the stars.

In the official synopsis from Apple, it states that the series ‘is a dark comedy inspired by true events that detail the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist to the stars Dr Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf’, who is being played by the Ant-Man star, ‘and his longtime patient Martin “Marty” Markowitz”, portrayed by Will Ferrell.

Paul definitely appeared to be getting into character when pictured on the Los Angeles set, looking extremely serious while walking with a visor covering his face.

Behind the transparent plastic, his typical short stubble was swapped for a bushy dark grey beard, with his usual brunette locks now a striking shade of white.

The actor was also wearing a pinstripe suit that looked fairly oversized, accessorising with a checkered tie and carrying a white piece of paper, which could be his lines.

Paul finished the look by wearing a pair of plain spectacles, completing his transformation as the psychiatrist.

In Apple’s description for The Shrink Next Door, it outlines that Paul’s character ‘Ike’ will come across as ‘all-too-charming’, so much so that he ‘slowly takes over Marty’s life, even moving into Marty’s Hamptons home and taking over his family business’.

‘The series explores how a seemingly normal doctor-patient dynamic morphs into an unprecedentedly exploitative relationship filled with manipulation, power grabs and dysfunction at its finest,’ it states.

Throughout his almost 30-year career, Paul, 52, has become a household name, starring in productions including Clueless, Anchorman, Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

From 2002 until 2004, he played Mike Hannigan in Friends, who eventually marries Lisa Kudrow’s character Phoebe Buffay.

Last year, Paul admitted in an interview that he felt like a ‘prop’ on the hit sitcom.

‘I felt, “I’m like a prop on this show. It’s not about Mike Hannigan”. But there’s a very interesting feeling to be a part of something that has that kind of profound impact on pop culture,’ he said.

The Shrink Next Door will be released on Apple TV+.
