Rockets’ Kevin Porter Jr Breaks LeBron James’ Sensational Record During Win Over Bucks

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is a role model for young players in the NBA. Since his arrival in the league, he has set multiple records. So when youngsters break his records, that’s an indicator of future greatness.

Tonight, Houston Rockets sophomore Kevin Porter Jr had an outstanding game against the Milwaukee Bucks. He went ballistic on offense, scoring a ridiculous 50 points and also notching up 11 assists. He broke LeBron’s record with this performance, by becoming the youngest player to have 50 points and 10+ assists in NBA history. LeBron did it as a 23-year-old.

LeBron arrived in 2003 as an 19-year-old, and it took him five years to achieve this record. He did it against the Knicks in March 2008 at the MSG and got the home fans on their feet. He finished with 50 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists to lead the Cavaliers to a 119-105 win. Similar to Porter Jr’s performance tonight, LeBron went berserk from three in that game, shooting 7-13 from downtown.

While that was a forgetful season for the Cavs, it was special for LeBron as he finished as the scoring champion, which is the only time he has done it in his career.

Can Kevin Porter Jr follow LeBron James’ greatness?

Since his arrival in the league, Porter Jr has been a controversial player. Despite the controversies, there have been no doubts about his talent. The Cavaliers got a steal when they drafted him with the 30th pick. But they traded him to the Rockets later because of behavioral problems within the team.

He has had a great start in Houston. After they traded away James Harden and Victor Oladipo, Porter Jr has more opportunities to shine. And he is making the most of it. The controversies haven’t ended yet though. He was fined $50k just a day ago for going to a ‘club’ with his teammate. Tonight he responded to it with a 50 point performance. That is a statement.

His performance helped the Rockets, one of the worst teams in the Western Conference, take down the Milwaukee Bucks. One of the highlights of his performance was that he did this against Jrue Holiday, who is arguably the best guard defender in the league. That makes this feat a lot more respectable.

The Rockets will hope that Porter Jr can continue to do what he does on the court and be a franchise piece for them in the coming years.
