“There’s No Loyalty” – Canelo Alvarez Breaks Silence on His Strained Relationship With Ex-Promoter Oscar De La Hoya

A year ago, Canelo Alvarez broke into the news when he filed a lawsuit against his then promoter, Oscar De La Hoya. The two were regarded as one of the best promoter-fighter pair and their collision staggered one and all.

Yet, after a while, the pair came to terms and agreed to never cross each other’s paths again. Putting some spotlight on the same, Alvarez gave his own take on the entire scenario.

“He is not Golden Boy. He doesn’t do anything in Golden Boy. He’s worried about drinking and being involved in other things. He isn’t Golden Boy. The decisions are made by other people.”

“Those who are in Golden Boy, they are only looking for their own benefit, not the boxer’s benefit. There’s no loyalty here. None. They don’t even know what that is,” said Alvarez while speaking to Graham Bensinger.

In 2019, Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya signed for an 11-fight deal worth $365 million, making it the richest deal in boxing. But it fell apart due to some disagreements and differences.

In his above interview, Canelo even asserted that he was always loyal to De La Hoya and his promotion. Yet he added that he doesn’t wish to talk on the same.

For now, Saul Alvarez is signed to Eddie Hearn‘s Matchroom Sport. The pair have joined hands for a two-fight deal. It will end on May 8 after Alvarez’s fight against Billy Joe Saunders.
