Valspar Championship Projected Cut Line: How Many Players Will Qualify for the Weekend at Innisbrook Resort?

The Valspar Championship is one of the most challenging events on the PGA Tour. The tournament was canceled in 2020 but has made a strong return this year. The first round invited plenty of action at the Copperhead Course, but there’s a major question lingering as Round 2 beckons. Where is the 36-hole cut drawn at the 2021 Valspar Championship? 

The Valspar Championship will impose a cut after Round 2 to filter the players moving into the weekend. So far, nearly 150 golfers are competing at the Copperhead Course in Innisbrook Resort, but the number will drop upon the conclusion of the second round on Friday. 

The scoring conditions at the Copperhead Course weren’t easy on Friday. It was hot and the wind hindered the landing spots on the layout. However, the players battled through it and gave fans a thrilling opening day at the Valspar Championship. 

Where will the cut line be drawn at the 2021 Valspar Championship?

Unfortunately, nearly half the field will face the cut at the 2021 Valspar Championship. A lot of them will be heading home after 36-holes, while the rest will head into the weekend to compete for the championship. 

The cut line is projected to be 65 players at -1 or better (T45) as per the PGA Tour. It means that the top 65 players (including ties) will qualify, while the rest will face the cut and miss out on competing on the weekend. 

The official cut line hasn’t been determined yet. While the 36-hole cut will only see 65 players (including ties), qualify, the scoreline that sets the bar will soon be known. As of now, 1-under par is the expected cut line, followed by even par. 

If the cut line stays at 1-under, we could see a few top names bowing out of the 2021 Valspar Championship without making it to the weekend. World No. 1 Dustin Johnson recorded an even-par score in the first round and he has some ground to cover ahead of Round 2, while Phil Mickelson’s first-round score was a 2-over 73. 

It remains to be seen if guys like Johnson or Phil Mickelson can produce a good performance on Friday. Nonetheless, get ready for the thrilling Round 2 at the Copperhead Course as the golfers will battle it out for a weekend spot at the 2021 Valspar Championship!
