Will ITV series Viewpoint be pulled following the Noel Clarke allegations?
Viewpoint actor Noel Clarke has been accused of misconduct by 20 women, with his Bafta membership being suspended.
The 45-year-old, who also starred in Doctor Who, has vehemently denied the allegations.
In light of the claims, however, some viewers are calling for Viewpoint to be pulled from ITV.
The drama follows a detective who is investigating the disappearance of a school teacher, and sets up surveillance on the prime suspect, the teacher’s boyfriend.
Four episodes of Viewpoint have already aired consecutively this week, with the final programme set to air tonight.
Will Viewpoint be cancelled?
There is currently no word on whether or not Viewpoint will go ahead tonight, and ITV has not yet released a statement on the allegations against Clarke.
At the time of writing, Viewpoint still appears on scheduled TV listings.
Clarke has been accused of professional misconduct, including sexual harassment and bullying, by 20 women, The Guardian reported.
He told the publication in a statement: ‘In a 20-year career, I have put inclusivity and diversity at the forefront of my work and never had a complaint made against me.
‘If anyone who has worked with me has ever felt uncomfortable or disrespected, I sincerely apologise. I vehemently deny any sexual misconduct or wrongdoing and intend to defend myself against these false allegations.’
The Guardian also claims that Clarke categorically denied all of the allegations bar one through his lawyers, accepting he once made inappropriate comments about one woman, for which he later apologised.
Last month, Bafta announced it was honouring Clarke for outstanding British contribution to cinema at this year’s awards.
However, it has now suspended the actor’s membership.
The academy said in a statement: ‘In light of the allegations of serious misconduct regarding Noel Clarke in The Guardian, Bafta has taken the decision to suspend his membership and the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema award immediately and until further notice.’
Who is in the cast of Viewpoint?
Clarke stars as DC Martin Young in the ITV drama.
He’s joined by Sanditon actress Alexandra Roach as Zoe Sterling, I May Destroy You’s Fehinti Balogun as Greg Sullivan, and The Fall actress Bronagh Waugh, who plays DC Stella Beckett.
DI Liam Fox is played by Phil Davis, and Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley stars as Kate Tuckman.
Shannon Murray plays DC Hayley Jones, Sarah Niles appears as DCI Jill Conroy, and Dominic Allburn plays Carl Tuckman.
Where is Viewpoint filmed?
Viewpoint centres around a single street where a police surveillance team set up a covert operation.
Filming took place in Manchester, with director Ashley Way saying of the location: ‘We knew this street would be key so it was the first location we searched for, which set the tone for everything.
‘A key element to the story is that there are people on varying incomes and from different social strata so we had to make sure we could show that in the location.’
He added: ‘Manchester is a beautiful place. It’s a modern city that is very much rooted in its industrial past, which for a filmmaker is a dream… You often see a lot of Castlefields and the Northern Quarter but we wanted to show people the concrete and glass, and the beautiful Georgian streets that it’s not necessarily known for.’
