Canelo Alvarez Explains How He Negotiated His Brother’s Release Days Before His World Title Fight

Alvarez has always been a family man. However, because of his success, he has had to keep his personal life a secret for most parts of his career. And the unified super-middleweight champion has shared a shocking incident that may explain his decision to keep his personal life private.

The 55-1-2 boxer spoke to Graham Bensinger on YouTube and shared a horrifying incident of his brother getting kidnapped days before his fight against Rocky Fielding. He said, “In 2018, the Monday before the fight… and I was always on the phone. I negotiated everything for his release. For three days I negotiated with those a**holes to get them to release him.”

This showed the incredible stress Alvarez went through before his bout. He even recalled the struggle to keep it out of the news. “And on top of that, I had the fight on Saturday, and I had to do a thousand interviews and everything. And no one knew anything.”

How did Canelo Alvarez fair in the fight?

This incident showed the incredible attitude of the champion. To deal with something like that while having to prepare for a fight was a testament to his superior mindset. So how did he get on in the ring after the frightening encounter?

After successfully negotiating for his brother’s release, the Mexican took center stage in Madison Square Garden to face Rocky Fielding for the WBA super-middleweight title. Alvarez showed his professionalism and did not let the events out of the ring deter him, even in the slightest.

Alvarez dismantled the Englishman in three rounds with a barrage of body shots and became the champion at super-middleweight. It appears as though the rage of the incident only spurred Alvarez on in the ring.
