Line of Duty’s top plot twists ahead of series 6 finale
Warning: spoilers for Line of Duty series one to six ahead.
Line of Duty series six is coming to an end very shortly and it’s been suggested that we’ll finally be let in on who H is.
While it’s not certain whether another series is on the horizon, the BBC drama starring Martin Compston (Steve Arnott), Vicky McClure (Kate Fleming), and Adrian Dunbar (Ted Hastings) has kept us gripped for nine years.
In that time, we’ve seen some of the best plot twists on TV, from Matthew ‘Dot’ Cottan’s (Craig Parkinson) urgent exit and Ryan Pilkington’s (Gregory Piper) induction into the force, to the unceremonious killing of some of our faves.
Ahead of what we’re sure will be one epic final plot twist for this series, we’ve looked back on some of the wildest moments.
Steve Arnott’s very first scenes
The first scenes of series one were all one big plot twist, as Steve’s counter-terrorism colleagues are seen storming into flat 56 and shooting a man they claimed to believe had been a suicide bomber.
Moments later, it’s revealed that they’d entered the wrong flat, that the six on the door was actually a nine, and that they’d shot an innocent man – leading to an investigation into the operation.
As Steve goes against everything he’s told in order to tell the truth, he’s recruited to AC-12 – and the rest is history.
Matthew ‘Dot’ Cottan is the Caddy
With AC-12 looking into Tony Gates (Lennie James) and encountering a larger network of police corruption, they’re left with the codeword ‘Caddy’, an alias for an associate of OCG boss Tommy Hunter (Brian McCardie).
During one scene, it’s revealed to viewers that Dot is in fact the Caddy, operating from within the police force and, eventually, from within AC-12.
It may take another couple of series for our trio to catch their bent copper, but it was so worth it – more on that later.
Georgia Trotman’s death
In one of our biggest lessons on not getting too attached to characters, Georgia Trotman (Jessica Raine) is shown getting thrown out of a window to her death.
The shocking series two scene had viewers realising anything could happen – and no one is safe.
Dot Cottan’s urgent exit
In what might be the best ever scene from the whole show, series three saw Dot very much trapped by AC-12.
Unable to talk himself out of trouble in the dreaded interview room, it seemed like he was about to be taken down – but he had one card left up his sleeve.
Taking out his phone, he was seen sending a message which read: ‘Urgent exit required’, before one of the armed officers outside the interview room shot the other, and then the windows of the interview room, allowing Dot to take off.
Roz Huntley lives
Thandie Newton was only ever going to be iconic in the role of Roz Huntley, and some of her earliest scenes proved it.
As Forensic Coordinator Tim Ifield (Jason Watkins) presumed he’d killed her, and was leaning over her, about to dispose of the body, she’s seen suddenly waking up.
John Corbett’s entire life and death
In all honesty, we’ve still not recovered from Stephen Graham’s appearance as undercover copper John Corbett.
From the revelation that he’s not actually the criminal we all thought he was, to his tragic death at the hands of Ryan, it was a lot to take in.
Ryan joining the force
Talking of the man himself, everyone’s least favourite kid on a bike cropping up a few series on was not something we ever expected.
As for him shown in the police training academy at the end of series five? It was borderline cruelty leaving us on that cliffhanger.
Jo Davidson’s family revelation
In perhaps the biggest plot twist (so far) of series six, it was revealed in one cliffhanger that Jo Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) had a striking family relation to someone already well known to the force.
While many fans guessed it, it was still a shocker that it turned out to be Tommy – and he wasn’t just her uncle, but her father too.
