Starstruck has officially been renewed for a second series, and co-creator Rose Matafeo appears to be ecstatic as she celebrates being back on the set of the BBC rom-com series.

Co-written by the comedian and Alice Snedden, Starstruck follows lead character Jessie (played by Rose) who has one-night-stand with a guy on New Year’s Eve… only to discover the next day that he’s a famous film star called Tom Kapoor (Nikesh Patel).

In a tale that draws parallels with Notting Hill while also offering a fresh take on a 21st-century romance, Jessie is encouraged by her best friend Kate (Emma Sidi) to pursue the relationship, resulting in a will-they-won’t-they narrative that won over hordes of fans.

For viewers who were hoping that a second series would be confirmed, their prayers have been answered, with the New Zealand performer announcing the news on social media.

In a post shared on Twitter and Instagram, she wrote: ‘Thank you for your truly lovely words about Starstruck so far. I’m sorry if I haven’t replied, but we started shooting something else this week.’

In the picture, Rose can be seen sitting on a sofa throwing her head back while smiling from ear to ear, holding a clapperboard that says ‘Starstruck 2.’

Several people expressed their excitement over Starstruck returning for a second series, with one person tweeting: ‘Yes! Thank you !!!! Binge watched all of season 1 in one sitting, absolutely loved it. Here’s hoping season 2 is every bit as good.’

‘Yay! This is epic! I binge watched the first series. It was so good,’ someone else said.

A number of Twitter users thanked Rose for creating such an entertaining show, with some revealing they watched the whole thing in one go.

‘Fantastic news. Finished series one last night and loved it. Perfect viewing for the crazy times we are living in,’ one fan wrote.

Another described the show as ‘wonderful’, saying that it ‘brightened a pretty challenging week’.

During a recent chat with Metro.co.uk, Starstruck actor Emma explained how classic rom-coms like Notting Hill and Bridesmaids influenced the story.

‘Rose and I, we love movies like that, and so does Alice who wrote it – I think we’re unashamed mega fans of classic rom-coms. So I think there’s no hiding from that,’ said Emma, who’s Rose’s real-life best friend and housemate.

The first series of Starstruck is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
