First look trailer at new Suranne Jones drama Vigil from the creators of Line of Duty
The BBC has released a trailer for its new thriller Vigil, offering a first look at the next big drama lined up after Line of Duty concludes tonight.
Coming from the makers of Line of Duty, as well as fellow hit BBC One series Bodyguard, the show’s pedigree seems legit.
What is BBC’s new show Vigil about?
The six-part TV series covers the mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death on board Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil, which brings the police into conflict with the Royal Navy and British security services. So far, so intriguing.
Gentleman Jack star Suranne Jones, playing lead DCI Amy Silva, and DS Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie from Game of Thrones) are described as leading an investigation on land and at sea into a conspiracy that goes to the very heart of Britain’s national security.
Who is in Vigil?
Alongside Jones and Leslie, Vigil’s cast is stuffed with familiar faces, from Line of Duty’s Martin Compston, to Peep Show actor Paterson Joseph and Game Of Thrones’ Stephen Dillane and Daniel Portman.
The trailer shows Royal Navy officers Stephen Dillane and Lolita Chakrabarti coolly briefing Jones’s character on the situation before she heads out to the submarine to investigate.
Martin Compston, freed from the Estuary sounds of Steve Arnott, adds an uneasy warning in the voice over, informing viewers that there are ‘twenty different ways you could kill Vigil’s crew – singlehanded’.
The trailer ends with Jones entering the vessel at sea before its door dramatically swings shut, adding a fitting sense of claustrophobia to proceedings.
Vigil’s stellar ensemble cast also features Anjli Mohindra, Connor Swindells, Adam James, Gary Lewis, Lorne MacFadyen and Lauren Lyle.
The show is written by Bafta-nominated writer Tom Edge, with episodes by Ed Macdonald and Chandni Lakhani.
If further encouragement is needed to convince you, Vigil is directed by Bafta-winner James Strong, who worked on Broadchurch, as well as Shetland’s Isabelle Sieb.
When does BBC’s Vigil TV show start?
The trailer for Vigil will air tonight, straight after the credits of Line of Duty’s series six finale.
There’s currently no reported start date for Vigil, but the show is in post-production, having wrapped shooting in Scotland following filming delays until August 2020.
