Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington May Not Happen- Kamaru Usman’s Manager Provides Update

After defending the welterweight title at UFC 261, Kamaru Usman is in search of a new challenger. The UFC’s second-ranked pound-for-pound fighter has defeated Gilbert Burns, Jorge Masvidal, and Colby Covington in his last four fights. Colby Covington was the only one who tested the champion and gave him a hard fight.

They fought back in UFC 245, where Usman emerged victorious in the last round by T/KO. Since then ‘Chaos’ has demanded a rematch as he has maintained that the stoppage wasn’t fair. As Covington sits atop the welterweight rankings, Dana White declared that would be the fight to make. But Usman’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, doesn’t want his client to take the rematch.

In a conversation with MMA Junkie, he said, “Why he thinks he deserves it? He’s privileged? Or he’s Mr. America? No, he’s not. He’s not privileged, he’s on Kamaru Usman time.”

Abdelaziz continued, “He’s gonna do what Kamaru want him to do. I don’t think he deserves it, but listen, it’s a business. It’s about selling fights. And we always ask UFC to create business behind closed doors. And if this is the next fight, Okay. But Colby has to give a lot of stuff out of his own pocket if he wants this fight. That’s what I think.”

Ali Abdelaziz thinks Colby Covington is one of the worst human beings

‘Chaos’ is one of the best trash-talkers the UFC has ever seen. He has adopted a heel persona and nothing is off-limits as he attempts to get under the skin of his opponents. Covington is the man responsible for giving Kamaru Usman his monicker as ‘Marty Fakenewsman’.

Abdelaziz said, “The guy can fight. But he is one of the worst human beings I’ve ever seen in my life, And I don’t think people like that should have this kind of opportunity.”

Abdelaziz pointed out the fact that Covington hasn’t been very active since his loss to Usman. He has only fought once, that too against Tyron Woodley, who has passed his prime in the UFC and departed following a four-fight skid. Hence, the manager feels the UFC should overlook ‘Chaos’ in favor of fighters like Vicente Luque and Michael Chiesa who are on winning runs.
