Line of Duty season 6: What you should definately watch after that H reveal

Line of Duty left fans reeling as the series six finale finally revealed the mystery surrounding H – or ‘the fourth man’ believed to be at the top of an organised crime group (OCG).

Fans saw AC-12 discover DCI Ian Buckells (Nigel Boyle) was the missing link and reaction to the shock reveal was pretty fierce as viewers felt they were left holding a sprat instead of a mackerel.

Buckells was brought before the dream team of Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), DI Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) and DI Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) for a grilling in the interview room after they learned he had misspelled ‘definately’ – just as H had done in the past.

He confessed to liaising with the OCG during the episode, and even boasted of ‘making mugs’ of Ted and the gang.

A seventh series has not been confirmed by the BBC, and viewers are still desperate for more from Ted and the team.

As we wait for more news about AC-12, here are a few shows that should tide you over until then.

Vigil

Straight after Line of Duty ended on Sunday night we were treated to the trailer for tense crime drama Vigil, from the makers of Jed Mercurio’s series.

The six-part TV series covers the mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death on board Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil, which brings the police into conflict with the Royal Navy and British security services.

Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie, Shaun Evans and Compston all star.

Vigil is coming to BBC One soon.

Bodyguard

Another tense drama from Mercurio’s mind is Bodyguard, starring Richard Madden and Keeley Hawes.

Madden plays the titular bodyguard, or rather a protection officer, assigned to look after Hawes’ Julia Montague, the UK’s Home Secretary, as she takes on the Prime Minister to try and pass a controversial terrorism bill.

It got everyone talking just as much as Line of Duty did, with particularly lively debate about Julia’s fate in an explosion, memorably spoiled by Radio Times’ front cover.

Bodyguard is available on Netflix.

Unforgotten

Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar play DCI Cassie Stuart and DI Sunny Khan, who investigate historic murder cases.

Good news is, Unforgotten was recently confirmed for a fifth series. The bad news is that star Walker will not be returning – for reasons we won’t spoil for you here.

Unforgotten is available on ITV Hub.

Bloodlands

DCI Tom Brannick (James Nesbitt) was thrown back into the past on the hunt for a killer nicknamed Goliath, whose identity was revealed in a gut punch of a twist in series one.

BBC has confirmed Nesbitt will reprise the role for a second series after Bloodlands became the channel’s biggest new drama launch since June 2020.

Informer

After getting arrested, Nabhaan Rizwan’s Raza is persuaded by Paddy Considine’s Gabe to work as an informant for a pair of morally grey police officers in order to protect his family.

Both gripping and surprisingly touching, Nabhaan shines with the ever-reliable Sunetra Sarker putting in a great performance.

Traces

The brilliant Molly Windsor takes centre stage in this Scotland-set drama, also starring Compston and Breaking Bad star Laura Fraser.

Emma (Windsor) take up a new job as a lab assistant to learn the principles of forensic science. However she is horrified to discover a ficitious case study used in an online course at the Scottish Institute of Forensic Science and Anatomy is striking similar to a horrific incident from her past.

Traces is available on UKTV Play.

Marcella

Anna Friel’s haunted yet efficient detective Marcella Backland found herself in new territory in series three.

Working deep undercover in Belfast, she assumes a brand new identity – Kiera – and infiltrates a crime family.

Her new persona threatens to consume her completely, and Marcella’s battle between her personal demons and her dedication to the job make for the more entertaining scenes. And Amanda Burton is terrifying as matriarch Katherine Maguire.
