New Chiefs Wide Out Says One ‘Can’t Compare Greatness’ During Talks About Trevor Lawrence & Mahomes
Trevor Lawrence was long regarded as the consensus #1 pick heading into the 2021 NFL Draft. The quarterback from Clemson put up astounding numbers throughout his college career.
And thus without much surprise, the Heisman finalist and former national champion, was picked up by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the first pick in the draft.
This will now see the former Clemson quarterback try to help spearhead the rebuild at Jacksonville. Many believe that Trevor Lawrence possesses the talent to win multiple Super Bowls.
Meanwhile, a former teammate of his from Clemson too harbors the same ambition. Wide receiver Cornell Powell who was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 181st overall pick heads to the Arrowhead to play with yet another elite quarterback. Patrick Mahomes.
Trevor Lawrence and Mahomes a class apart
Powell was played as a starter for only one season at Clemson. With that being 2020, the 6’4″ wideout racked up 882 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. All this of course while he played alongside Trevor Lawrence.
Now the QB has the opportunity to work with one of the best in the NFL in Patrick Mahomes. Talking to the media after being drafted, Powell was not keen on drawing any comparisons between Lawrence and Mahomes.

“What I have learned is that you can’t compare greatness,” said Powell. “Trevor is great. Patrick is great. I’m just blessed to go from one great quarterback to the next.”
Powell further said that he is keen to get to work with Mahomes. Pumped to get on the field, the wide receiver said that the goal is to win multiple Super Bowls.
“As soon as I get to Kansas City, I’ll get to work with Patrick. Just try to get on the same page as him, try to get something to happen for the team. The ultimate goal is to win Super Bowls, so I’m ready to do that.”
The wounds of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss from last season are still fresh. The side was one win away from reclaiming the title. But their league-best offense simply didn’t turn up when it mattered.
Powell will look to make an impact and fill that void to help the Chiefs back to the Super Bowl. And who knows, maybe he and Lawrence might end up playing each other in the big game sometime soon.
