Comedian Ade Edmondson had to be rescued by firefighters after things took an embarrassing turn while he was cleaning his windows.

The 64-year-old star shared the awkward story with his followers on Twitter, and he admitted his Bank Holiday weekend wasn’t going entirely to plan after he ended up trapped on his window ledge shouting for help.

He tweeted: ‘Just trapped myself on a window ledge whilst cleaning the windows. Had to ask passerby to fetch help.

‘Fire Brigade came. Small crowd gathered – thoroughly enjoying themselves. FB very kind and didn’t snigger too much as they rescued me. How’s your Bank Holiday?’

Referring to his wife, one fan asked: ‘How did Jennifer react?’

Another quipped: ‘It was her that closed the window!’

Other admirers of Ade’s work compared the mishap to something out of The Young Ones or Bottom, while some tried to make him feel better with their own Bank Holiday misfortunes.

One replied: ‘I fell down a drain. Managed to climb out without anyone seeing. No joke.’

Another revealed she was ‘locked out of the house’ by her husband when he went to pick up their lunch.

‘He forgot I was in the garden,’ she added. ‘Waited on doorstep with cat.’

And a different follower had their own gardening story after spending ‘half an hour watering the garden’, only for it to start raining the moment they stepped back inside.

In a more painful moment, one Twitter user wrote: ‘[I] took the kids out on their scooters and my eldest got to a really steep hill and said, “No way am I going down there.”

‘I told him kids these days are wimps, and I proceeded to scoot down … crash spectacularly and possibly fracture my elbow!’

Other stories included dogs pushing people into ponds, and an artist whose watercolour painting fell down the back of a radiator.
